About the Club

Learning English is fun! The aims of English Club are to arouse students’ interest in English and improve students’ English language proficiency.  We have so far organized a great variety of activities for our students.

Scrabble competition

We hold the scrabble competition every year and all the classes are invited to participate in the activity. Scrabble is one of the most popular games and needless to say, it is very popular to teachers and students. Through playing scrabble, you can practise using the vocabulary you have learnt and you may even learn some new words from your playmates.

I.P.A. (International Phonetic Alphabets) workshop

Most students dare not speak English because they don’t know how English words should be pronounced. Even if they use a dictionary to look up a word, they still do not know how they should pronounce it. This is because the pronunciation of a word is expressed in I.P.A. in dictionaries. Through the I.P.A. workshop, students can learn how to read I.P.A. and learn some rules which they should pay attention to when they pronounce an English word.

Movie shows

Watching English movies to learn English is very enjoyable indeed. We have selected movies like ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘About a boy’ and ‘Love actually’ and they are good English language learning resources for you can learn numerous new English words, and also you can see how people use English in daily life and in different contexts.

The Board of English Club

is also a good learning resource. You can see information about ‘Recommended English Books’. The selection is not limited only to grammatical books. It also includes new dictionaries and books which improve students’ reading skills and English speaking ability.

If you are interested in current local news, you can take a look at the ‘Reading Corner’. The newspaper articles selected are related to controversial social issues like English language education in Hong Kong.

The ‘Fun Zone’ offers you some interesting English word games, book reviews and information about movies like ‘Oliver Twist’, which is highly recommended to students especially those who are studying in Secondary 4 and preparing for the School Based Assessment.
